Tourism Players Seek 24/7 Access To Vizag Beachfront
Representatives from travel, trade and commerce after submitting a representation to Commissioner of Police Shsnkar Brata Bagchi in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: Representatives from Visakhapatnam's travel, trade, and commerce sectors have urged authorities to keep the panoramic beachfront open 24/7 to boost tourism.
"This will help us fulfill our long-cherished dream of transforming Visakhapatnam into a prominent tourist hub," the representatives told Commissioner of Police Shankar Brata Bagchi.
In a representation submitted to him after a brief discussion, K Vijay Mohan, P Srinivas Kumar, Pavan Karteek, Vimal Jain, Dheeraj and Lal Chand, who are from hotel and travel sector and AP Chambers of Commerce, pointed out that curbs on spending time on the beach road is dampening their spirit. He said to encourage tourists, the beach road and the beachfront area should be thrown open to the public round the clock.
They wanted action against fly-by-night tourist agents who are trying to take the people for a ride with offers of travel and accommodation at throwaway prices. They wanted a committee set up to monitor such nefarious activities to dupe the gullible public. Expressing concern over spurt in anti-social activities and efforts to encroach heritage sites, they sought establishment of a police outpost at Thotlakonda - a 2BC heritage site dating back to 2000 years.
